Madame Tirailleurs is a 16 minutes film investigating the role of Asian-Vietnamese women soldiers and the difficult legacies left behind. Filmed in Thiaroye and Dakar in 2016, the artist follows a family, the children and grand-children of a Vietnamese woman soldier who emigrated with her Senegalese husband. The film reveals entangled personal recollections of the role of Vietnamese and Asian soldiers in West Africa, the assassination of soldiers at Thiaroye in 1944, and the intrinsic generational trauma left behind affecting the family's mobility & integration, psychological health, and increased domestic violence.
