Drexciya (After Maria Felipe)

This photographic series re-examines the history of anti-colonial resistant warrior Maria Felipe on the island of Itaparica in Salvador-Bahia Brazil. Working with the support of Goethe Instute Vila Sul in Bahia, the artist created afro-futuristic after-lives of the women who lead resistance against the Portuguese oppressors using botanical plants from the island as weapons.
